GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation, which is a legal framework that sets guidelines for the collection and processing of personal information from individuals who live in the European Union (EU). GDPR became effective on May 25, 2018, it strengthens and builds on the EU’s current data protection framework, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaces the 1995 Data Protection Directive.
Types of data protected by GDPR:
- Basic identity information such as name, address, id etc.
- Web data like IP address, cookie data, location, RFID tags etc.
- Health and generic data.
- Biometric data.
- Racial or ethnic data.
- Political opinions.
- Sexual orientation.
